How we started

Garry has been involved in the building industry for many years. John’s desire to become a builder started as a young child, and on leaving school he jumped at the opportunity to start an apprenticeship and pursue his dreams.

Once John had completed his time, he did what many young Kiwis do and headed overseas on his ‘big OE.’ Upon returning to New Zealand, John started his own building company, John McNaught Builders, and contracted to Garry‘s project management company.

After a couple of years, John and Garry decided it made sense to join forces — to combine John’s youthful energy with Garry’s vast industry experience. So, in 2012, the pair established McNaught Construction.

We have no shortage of expertise, and our finishing and detail work is second to none. We love nothing more than sitting down with architects at the planning stage to create something new and unique.
Expert project managers
Getting things done in the construction business mainly takes two things: expertise and relationships. Of course, expertise is a given; however, what people often overlook is the importance of strong industry relationships. Thanks largely to Garry’s considerable experience, we have relationships spanning decades. For example, for us, getting a plumber to fix a burst pipe at short notice is a matter of just picking up the phone. This combination of strong relationships and know-how is what enables us to manage projects fluidly from start to finish.
